Games

In ICT we will be designing our own educational games using a programme called Scratch. This week we want you to think about any games that you already play for example on mathletics.

Write about your favourite games:

·         What are they?

·         Why do you enjoy playing them?

·         What do you learn from them?

·         Do you have any ideas for your own educational game?

  1. My favourite game is called candy maker. And it is all about how to make different candy for example you could make bubble gum, chocolate bars, lollipops and marshmallow puffs.

I like playing it because you have a variety of candy that you can choose which one you want to make.

I learn how to cook from this game. If I don’t have a recipe on different candy I can use the game for a recipe.

My idea of an educational game would be about history. You would be shown an object and you would need to link it to a part of history.

  2. Light Bot

I enjoy playing Lightbot because you control and love a little robot and you have to make him light up a square.

It teaches me about the best way to write instructions, and also to check and edit your work if you don't get it right first time.

I also like the Gruffalo Vanishing Wood game because it tells you about trees that are being cut down and that we need to plant more trees.

I would like to make a game to teach people to save animals. My idea is that you have to click on an hunter. It would disappear and you get points. If you clicked on an animal by mistake it would disappear but you would lose points.

  3. Sim City

My favourite game is called Sim City. Sim City is a game where there is an empty land so you can build houses and shops. I like it because I can build a city of my dreams. I like to design and plan the city, I can make characters and can fill the houses with furniture of what I can imagine. In Sim City I can choose any type of house for a new character.

When I play Sim City I learned different vocabulary such as:
    1. Animals like pet’s names: husky, greyhound, Maine Coon, Golden Retriever.
    2. Work places: laboratory, pet salon, car dealer, recording studio, pub, salon, town hall.
    3. Different professions and career for example Scientist, athlete, barber
I also learned about calculations from money like addition and subtraction.

If I made a game this is how it would go:
First there is a random person standing In the middle of the street. It starts raining heavily and starts to flood. There are maths problems that need to be solved. Every problems solved wrongly the heavier the rain will be and whenever the answer is correct the rain will get smaller and smaller. When the water level is at 0% then you could go to the next level up which is a similar game. But there is a timer of 1 minute for solving each problem!

  4. I enjoy playing Word Up game, because its fun and exiting when you get the words correctly. In this game you have two words that you have to guess from single mucked up letters. This game is very good for your spelling and also you have to use your brain to guess the words which can be very tricky in higher levels.
For my own educational game I'm thinking to make smart literature game. You would have to answer questions about literature to be able to go to different level and there will be 301 levels.

  5. My most favourite game is Minecraft. I enjoy playing Minecraft because it’s a creative game. You get to craft and build various structures. It’s like real life! I also like Minecraft because you can roam anywhere through the structures to build. You can learn from Minecraft because you can learn what different materials are and you can learn how to survive in a deep jungle.

My next favourite game is Asphalt 8. It’s a car racing game. You get to choose your racing car, you can improve your car by adding new features to your car and when you win the race you get money (not real!) which you can use to buy new cars or add more mods to your car to make it better. It’s very realistic. You can learn to concentrate and take quick decisions with this game.

I have an idea about building a unit converter game in which the game will ask a question about unit conversion (like converting metres into centimetres etc.) and the answers will be checked by the game and correct answers can add score. When we create the game we can enter different types of measures, like for distance we can enter meters, centimetres, millimetres, kilometres etc. and similarly we can enter various measures for weight, volume, area etc. and we can also use “pick random” operator to choose random numbers to make the question. This way we can create a nice educational game which can generate random questions about unit conversion and we get to practice our knowledge about different types of measures. I think we can easily create this game using scratch.

  6. .My favourite games are mostly on mathletics and they are:

I scream lady, Ghost house, Granny crench and Dominoes. Also, one of the most challenging game is --- The Mind twister. Lastly, I also enjoy Live Mathletics.

.I enjoy playing them as they are educational games but still at the same time they are fun.

.I learn a lot from these games, for example:

I scream lady game is fun and teaches me money problems.
Ghost house helps me with division.
Granny crench makes me fast at times tables.
Dominoes is a brain game which keeps my brain sharp.
Finally, mind twister confuses my mind and keeps my memory in perfect shape.
Also, Live Mathletics makes my work fast and gives me a chance to compete with other kids around the world.

.Yes, my idea for an Educational game is to make a Maths Challenge Game:

On the screen there will be a 4x4 grid, which will be timed and on it numbers will be changing at random. A question will be asked each time either on addition or subtraction or multiplication or division. The answer needs to be clicked on the grid which will be displaying possible and confusing answers. For the wrong answer the whole grid turns red and reveals the answer. For the right answer the grid will start glowing in flashy colours.

Voila! That’s my Maths challenge game.

  7. I like playing 3D rugby kit designer, because you get to make your own rugby kit and sometimes you get to get it made and sent to you in real life, so you can wear it. you learn things to do with art and decoration. I have an idea of there being a virtual p.e lesson, were you do hockey, tag rugby and netball were you can move but be able to see a computer screen

  8. Mathletics
One of my favourite games is Mathletics. I enjoy playing it because when you get a lot of points you get to change your background, clothes and hats and get better at maths. I learn the things we did in school and practise them. I like when I play live maths because it is quick and you only have 3 lives in till you are out. If I could make my own educational game it would be something like Mathletics but I will make a place where you can practise what you have done in class but only when you have finished the question the teacher has given them. You can go on it and what the class will be doing after the subject they are doing so if you were doing shapes and you what to know what you where doing next you could go on it and you could see that it while be adding.

    Minecraft
    ************

*My game that I have chosen is called Minecraft. Minecraft is about creativity and building your own things such as castles, palaces and bridges, literally anything.

*I enjoy playing Minecraft because I like playing on different modes, exploring in the lands because you can find different caves and find really rare jewels like diamonds, emeralds, iron, lapis and all of these things all exist in the real world. You can also make different things with these jewels like armour, swords and even blocks.

*Minecraft helps me to express my creativity and communication skills.

*Yes I do have an idea and I am going to make a maths test and when you get 5 questions right you get 5 blocks and you can build what you want and it keeps on going until you want to stop and as the questions get harder and harder you get better materials to help you make a better house or a castle.

  10. Free Rice
Free rice is a game where when you get a question right you donate 10 grains of rice to people around the world that need food. I like playing it because most words that I don’t really know show up so I can learn new words. I also like playing it is because you donate 10 grains of rice to poor countries when you get a question right. Free rice is mostly a game for vocabulary but you can learn grammar, maths and science and other things that we learn at school from it.
The idea that I have for my own educational game is, when you get 50 questions right in a row and you move on to the next level of the subject you are doing you will get a free class of your favourite subject.

  12. Games :(A text my favourite games and it's properties)

Minecraft is classified as a sandbox game. A sandbox game is a game where you have a untouched natural world and have to gather resources to build and survive. I enjoy playing Minecraft because you can fight of monsters, find new substances and enjoy your creations, this mode is called survival. There are 1 or 2 more modes depending on which console you're playing on.The extra mode called adventure is only included on the Xbox and play station consoles. Now let's move on to creative. Creative is a mode where mobs (mobiles) don't attack and you have unlimited resources plus you're immortal. And finally adventure is a mode where you can't break anything except grass and mobs do attack and you can also die.In Minecraft, you learn the name of different plants, substances and also how to use maps and compasses.

Pixel gun is a game that isn't violent although it uses guns and knives. These weapons are earned buy killing enemies. On your first time playing a real match you have a simple pistol and a kitchen knife that don't do much damage but as you get more coins and gems you purchase better weapons.I enjoy playing it because you have to act fast when loads of people attack you. In this game your actions become faster, you look out for each other in the team mode and hopefully you will learn what to do in a real life situation.

Now last but not least real racing is a car game where you have different types of racing:elimination laps 1v1 and more. First you get hired by an agent who gives you
$ 25,000,with this money you can buy, decorate, modify and add new parts to your car.The first 2 cars you can buy are the Nissan saliva and the Ford Focus s model. When you race you get goals. If you complete these tasks you earn $ and fame which will help get more agents and get better cars in better categories therefore higher ranked tournaments which means more money and all of this is in a continuous loop.

I love the game called I-scream lady because I like pattern solving and EATING ICE-SCREAM!!! This helps me learn combinations.

For my own game I would like to have:
    *points
*when you get 5 questions in a row correct you have to do a point treasure hunt
    *you should have 4 lives
*There should be a medal for every 10 questions you get right
    *levels

  15. My Favourite Games
My favourite game is called "Unblock Me Free". This is a problem solving game. The game has a RED block which is blocked by the other rectangular blocks of different size. The challenge is to free the Red block by sliding the other blocks out of the way. The lesser the moves the better it is. The game has 4 four difficulty levels ranging from beginner to expert.
I enjoy this game because it’s a puzzle game and I really like solving puzzles. The game has challenging and relaxing modes. There is also a tiny bulb at the bottom of the screen for hints, should you need some.
I am sure "unblock me free" has improved my problem solving techniques.
The other game I like is Real Racing3. This game is basically a car race on real race tracks like Richmond international race way. You get 25,000 $ at the start to buy either Nissan Silver or Ford Focus RS. The Game has 8 different levels called Nascar, Amateur, Pro/Am, Pro, Expert, Master, Elite and Legend. Each level has different sections to play and the sections have to be unlocked. To win a trophy one has to be in top three.
The game is a real thriller and I would not want it to change!

  16. Traffic racer
    -----------------
    Introduction:
Traffic racer is a game which you can play on an I-pad, phone, tablet and possibly X-box. There are various modes: endless drive (one way), endless drive (two ways), free ride and police chase.

    What is it?
    --------------
    1) The aim of the game is to get the furthest without getting hit by the other cars. The further you go the more cash you get (not real money). If you go above the speed of 100mph and still drive safely you get bonus points which you can use to buy different cars. To speed up just hold the accelerator button located on the right hand side. In order to slow down, you need to hold the brake button located on the left hand side. To shift into a different lane you have to tilt the device.

Why do I enjoy playing it?
    ----------------------------------
    2) It is extremely tense when I am controlling the driver and going at a very high speed dodging the other cars. If I dodge them all then I feel relieved and if I achieve a high score then I feel very happy. This is why I enjoy playing it. It is amazing, fun and epic.

What do I learn from it?
    -------------------------------
    3) I learn how to anticipate what is coming next and in which direction to shift my car. It also gives me the feeling that I am driving the car. It tells me that if you go fast (90mph) then you will probably bump into another car whereas if you go slightly slower (40mph) then you have a better chance of getting a high score and more points. (TIP)If you go at 25mph then you will not get any points.

My idea for my own educational game
    ---------------------------------------------------
    4) I have an idea for my own educational game. It is called Spelling Race and is about spelling, literacy, writing and grammar. In my game people should learn their spelling and use the right grammar and punctuation in their work. You have a challenge to complete in 60 seconds and you are against other people. If you get a correct answer then you move forward a space, but if you get it wrong then you go back to the start. Whoever wins will get an award to keep in your cabinet of awards which is on the left bottom corner of the page. You get a cabinet when you join the game.

Your teeth can rot from many thing's but the main ones are sugar and plaque. Plaque is a substance that is left in your mouth from the bits of sugary foods you don't wash off. Sugar is bad for your teeth because it makes the enamel on your teeth decay.

    Tips
    ******

Only have a few sweets so that they don't rot away.
Make sure to brush your teeth 2 times a day.
Don't have too much food and drink with sugar in it.
