Next week is Poetry Week so for
your homework this week we would like you to find a poem and learn it by heart.
Make sure you practice reading the poem aloud with lots of expression so that you
can perform it to the class. My
favourite poem is ;
Smiling
Smiling is contagious
you catch it like the flu.
When someone smiled at me today,
I started smiling too.
you catch it like the flu.
When someone smiled at me today,
I started smiling too.
I passed around a corner
and someone saw my grin
and when he smiled,
I realised I passed it on to him.
and someone saw my grin
and when he smiled,
I realised I passed it on to him.
So
if you feel a smile begin
don’t leave it undetected.
Let’s start an epidemic quick
and get everyone infected.
don’t leave it undetected.
Let’s start an epidemic quick
and get everyone infected.
Broken Branch
ReplyDeleteNight arrived as you fell into a deep dream,
Outside your window, you heard a loud scream.
Was it a scream or was it a crash?
Looked on your arm, noticed a gash.
Seemed forever, as silence came,
Full moon covered in a flame.
Never experienced such a dream,
Seconds later another scream.
Shivering cold, you dared to look,
Hitting your window, long brown hook.
You gasped for air as you woke,
Broken branch from your oak!

A good neighbour !
ReplyDeleteFor your neighbours, lend a hand
Show them that you understand
They have rights we must protect
Show them kindness and respect
For your neighbours try to care
When their they're troubled ,
Lend a ear and listen to
If they're worried ,help them through
For your neighbours give a smile
Spend time with them for a while
Look after your neighbour's needs
And someone will reward your deeds.
-Chanakya
This room, how well I know it.
ReplyDeleteNow they're renting it, and the one next to it,
as offices. The whole house has become
an office building for agents, businessmen, companies.
This room, how familiar it is.
The couch was here, near the door,
a Turkish carpet in front of it.
Close by, the shelf with two yellow vases.
On the right -no, opposite- a wardrobe with a mirror.
In the middle the table where he wrote,
and the three big wicker chairs.
Beside the window the bed
where we made happily so many times.
They must still be around somewhere, those old things.
Beside the window the bed;
the afternoon sun used to touch half of it.
. . . One afternoon at four o'clock we separated
for a week only . . . And then-
that week became forever.
Chanakya, this is an excellent piece of poetry. Neighbours are like family next door. I really liked your work.
ReplyDeleteA Wintery Night
ReplyDeleteThe sky is dark and the ground is white,
The world is peace full on this wintery night,
No one around,
Not a sound to be heard,
Not a laugh,
Not a car,
Not even a bird,
For a moment it's just the snow and me,
I smile inside,
I fell so free.
Clouted by sprouts,
ReplyDeleteAnd harassed by carrots!
Poked by the beans,
And screamed at by salad!
Poisoned by cabbage,
And pinched by the peas!
Tripped by the spinach,
And peppered with seeds!
Hair pulled by parsnip,
And bruised by tomato!
Glared at by swede,
And thumped by potato!
Battered by beetroot,
That pinch, punch and poke!
Slapped by the onions,
And Arti, who chokes!
