This toy boat found washed up on a Welsh beach incredibly crossed the Atlantic Ocean in one piece

The toy boat was pulled out of the sea by Helen Hinks and her three children as they walked along a beach in Borth, West Wales. The toy was found by Helen Hinks and her three children as they walked along a beach in Borth, Ceredigion. But after seeing an appeal for it, they discovered the boat, named the Caroline Dreamer, had first been released into the Atlantic Ocean in May last year by a class of nine and 10-year-old pupils in Charleston, South Carolina.

'Something special'

Helen, 30, said she noticed “something magical” about the five-foot long boat straight away and took it home.

The aromatherapist said: “It was an amazing experience.” The boat being made in the USA with school teacher Amy McMahon.

“We were looking at the waves and my son said ‘look mum there’s a boat’. We were so excited, I ran in and grabbed it. It felt quite magical really — it sailed right up to us so it felt as though there was something special about it.”

School project

Pupils at St Andrews School of Math and Science launched the Carolina Dreamer nine months ago as a project to teach the children about the world’s oceans. The 5f-long fibre glass boat was fitted with a GPS tracker so pupils at the school could monitor its journey.  American schoolchildren and members of the coastguard who helped launch the boat in the USA but the boat didn’t have an engine and lost its sail during the 3,900 mile journey, but it managed to float naturally to Wales.

Last week it transmitted its location as 10 miles north of Aberstwyth, West Wales, so teacher Amy McMahon contacted local marine officials in a bid to trace it. Helen came forward after an appeal in a local newspaper and emailed the students in America to say the boat was safe.

'Over the moon'

Teacher Amy, 40, said: “We cannot tell you how excited and elated we are to hear that our beloved boat has been recovered and has found its way to a nearby school.”

Student Paris Cash, nine, said: “I am happy that the boat has been recovered. I was scared at first but when I heard somebody found our boat I was happy. When I heard, I jumped up and down.”

The battered boat that washed up in Wales

Zahnyah Quirk, 10, added: “I heard that our boat has been saved and I hope you know that our class is relieved and excited.”

Richard Baldwin, who tracked the Carolina Dreamer’s voyage, said: “Special teachers really make this program exciting and effective.

“Every voyage is different and you never know what’s going to happen when a small boat goes to sea.

“This keeps the kids interested and I think this is what makes the marine science and international relation opportunities that make this special.”

In class children have been creating news reports based on the story Flotsam, which we have been reading.  In the story a camera full of amazing pictures washed up on the beach.  Imagine another object has washed up on the beach. Write a news report about the discovery.  Include interviews from different people.

  5. Ancient Spanish Discovery

A five hundred year old ancient message in a bottle has been found by a 23 year old girl called Lucy McLaren on August the 16th 2015.
Lucy says:” I was really excited that I saw it float towards me. I just went to have a dip in the sea and there it was floating towards me”
Lucy had then rushed home to open the bottle and read it in peace. Inside there was a message written in Spanish from war so she asked her Spanish friend lily to translate it for her. The message translated in English is:
“Help our ship is sinking we can’t go on and fight back you have to do it yourself we can do it if we really try hard we can win”
    Abel
(Abel is an old Spanish name)
All of this (in Spanish) was written in scruffy writing but it makes sense as his boat was about to sink so he had to think fast. There was a date scribbled in the corner which was 16th August 1446.
With just under 570 years at sea it has been the oldest message in a bottle found.
The bottle was a maroon coloured bottle with a sandy wooden cork on top. The paper inside was as rusty as iron. It felt like sand paper if you touched it. Surprisingly even after 5 centuries floating in the ocean the bottle and paper inside was intact.

Australia - A 8 year old boy was digging a sand castle on the beach, dug his toy shovel into the sand and uncover a 5 million pirate treasure!
Tom found the ancient trunk filled with golden coins, pearls and precious stones on the beach in Australia.
Historian believe the treasure was stolen from an Mexican ship called THE CARACAS back in 1599 and buried by famous pirate HOOK.
Tom and mom explained: "We didn't know where our next meal was coming from".
She is single mom without a job.
"Our rent was due that day and, not knowing what to do, I took Tom to the beach to think. Tom was playing in the sand. Suddenly I heard him call:
"Mommy, look at the big box".
"When I looked, there was the top of a big rusted trunk sticking out of the sand. Our eyes almost popped out of our heads when we opened it up and saw all those precious things".
By the Australian low the Government will take 40% of the treasure for tax. But that still leaves Tom and mom with 3 million.

A mysterious black box found on Santo Monica beach.

A mysterious black box has washed up on 'Santo Monica' beach. An eyewitness, James Browni saw it come from the east coast of Florida ,from the direction of the 'Bermuda triangle'. Another eyewitness Mark has said this from Santo Monica:

When I witnessed this happen, I remembered about flight
UA37 . It had lost track with airport ,10min into the flight and crashed but never found.

As we know what mark said about flight UA37, it might just be that the planes black box broke off during the impact of hitting the water at 7600knots.We still do not know much about the crash of flight UA37. This black box will be able to shed some light on it.
Also the scientist ,Mr Watney from Florida Sea University has put forth his theory of the power of Bermuda Triangle.

"Does the Bermuda Triangle have a hand in this.?I certainly think so he says"
It may be recalled that similar disappearances had happened in World War II when Flight 19 of the US Navy avengers lost control of their plane and was brought down into the water.Currently a team of air crash investigators are working on it.. Hopefully we will be able to solve the mystery soon.

Bermuda Triangle has been a mysterious place for sometime now. With this crash the mystery further deepens.

    Regards,
    KRISH

    Martin:
Hello and welcome to GBC news at 4. I am Martin with this week’s top stories. Firstly, we have an ordinary school boy on an ordinary beach who found a mysterious chest from literally in the middle of nowhere. Over to you Om on Miami beach where this has occurred.

    OM:
Thanks Martin. I am Om Sharma reporting from Miami Beach and am with Robert Jones who has found a mysterious object right here.
Firstly, Rob how did it happen?

    Robert:
I flailed as the wave caught me. I was in its grasp desperate for breath. I just could not get away as the sea shook me harder and harder until it finally released me. I then floated to the shore relieved that I wouldn’t drown. When I got to shore, I sat up, shook the water from my hair and picked the seaweed and other things from my legs. I stood, turned around, and stepped on a very pointy and sharp thing on the sand. Immediately, I lifted my foot and saw a mysterious object half buried in the sand.

    OM:
So how did it feel when you found the mysterious chest?

    Robert:
The chest looked old, rusty, covered in seaweed and completely black. It had a name The Great Salomon carved on it. It was soo cool!!! I felt so excited and tried to open the golden rusty latch straight away. I couldn’t open it at first, but got it opened once I figured out how.

    OM:
What did you do with the ancient chest in the end?

    Robert:
I’ve actually opened it now and found these strange things inside. There are many names inside the box mostly coloured in green. I picked one out and it said JEFF on it and was coloured in green too. I picked another one out that said Miss Robben and was coloured in orange. Then I realised the orange name was a teacher and green was student. The chest must have come from the sea and unbelievably it ended up with me.

    OM:
About that, we have a team of expert journalists working on where it came from, how it got here and who wanted it to come here.

    OM:
Cheers Rob and have a cracking day.

    Robert:
Cheers and have a good day too.

    OM:
Thank you but that’s all we have for tonight but you can see us on catch up channel (921) thanks for watching. BYE BYE!! (Ending theme song just comes on for the rest of the channel)

    Regards,
    Om (STUDENT)

  16. The Mysterious Treasure Chest

A mysterious, golden, rusty treasure chest found on the shore of the Devon Beach!

(News Reporter): Hello. I am Faisal Mohammad live on the BBC News reporting from Devon. An eight year old boy called Josh has spotted an old, antique treasure chest on the shore of the Devon Beach. It is believed that the treasure chest is quite ancient. There is an inscription on the chest saying, “The Serpentine.”

We are going to interview Josh to find out more about this mysterious treasure chest.

    Faisal:

So Josh, how exactly did you find the Serpentine?

    Josh:

So, I was looking at a hermit crab on the shore and this giant wave crashed over me. At first, I could not breathe for a few seconds, until somehow I was released from the mighty wave and I controlled myself. Then, I found a mysterious Treasure Chest that lay in front of me. I felt petrified to open it, although to my relief I was astonished to find antique, dazzling jewels and precious figurines in it. They were probably centuries and centuries old and were probably passed on for the future generations.

    Faisal:

Do you still have the Treasure Chest with you?

    Josh:

No, the Chest is not with me now. I have handed it over to the National History Museum in London. The Museum has taken the priceless jewels and the rare figurines for display while they added some modern money and ornaments belonging to this day and age and has released the Chest back into the Devon Beach for the future generations to cherish. I feel quite proud to be a part of this and for the chance to see the priceless treasure.

    Faisal:

Thank you and that’s all we have time for. We will be seeing you tomorrow same time. Bye-Bye!!!
