Recounts

In Literacy we are learning about recounts.  For your homework we would like you to think about the best day or best trip you can remember.  Write all about the day.

 Remember to:

- Write in past tense

- Add detailed descriptions using expanded noun phrases (how did it smell, feel, sound?)

- Use adverbs of time (eg. Next, after, finally)

- Use adverbial phrases (eg. Later that day; As I walked down the hill)

- Write in chronological order
-Use prepositional phrases (Eg. Under the table, over the hill, next to the bridge)

  1. My best trip was going to Dubai.

In the morning I woke up ,brushed my teeth and got ready for breakfast. At breakfast I had pancakes and waffles with chocolate sauce and cereal. After breakfast, we went to the pool side and swam. In the pool we played games, done some races like a front crawl race and a back stroke race we also done some funny synchronized swimming with my sister Ria. Also near the pool side we had some YUMMY lunch. A few minutes later, we got a bit tired so we headed back to the hotel and had a few snacks. Later on, me and my sister went to the kid’s club. At kids club we got henna done, played games and we done some epic painting. Are mum picked us up and then we went on an awesome boat ride, we saw small and big buildings and we also saw some other hotels. When the boat ride finished we got a bit bored so we decided to go and do shopping at the mall, so we took the Dubai bus to get there. When we arrived we done some cloth shopping and we brought some toys. We were walking along the mall and saw a magic fountain performance, it looked really cool so we watched it. It was FANTASTIC!!!!It was getting late so we took the Dubai bus again to go back to the hotel. We quickly ran to the dinner restaurant to get dinner. We were starving, we ate scrumptious food and walked back to our hotel room, because it was dark there were nice blue lights every-where. When we got back, I brushed my teeth said goodnight and sweet dreams to everyone and then went to sleep!!!!

    1. That's sounds like fun Elina. Great use of time adverbials. Try to also separate it into paragraphs.

In the summer holidays, on the 28th to the 36th, I went to the new forest in a holiday park called Hoburne Naish.

The journey there was 1 1/2 hours and when I got there I helped my dad unpack everones bags. Then, that night, me and my dad went to the entertainment called House Party. We did some party dances and some mini-games.

The next day we did the sport during the day and went to House Party and played bingo but sadly did not win. It went on like that for the next 4 days.

Luckily, the last full day I had there I did do the same but on the bingo I won top prize, 500 tickets for the arcade!

The next day, I went home feeling a bit sad but then enjoyed the rest of my holiday!

  3. On the first day of the half term, I woke up and was so excited that we were going to Tenerife with our friends!!! I had to go to sleep at 8pm so that I could wake up at midnight the next day because our flight was at 6am, so we needed to be at the airport at 3am. It was a 4 hours flight to Tenerife. Once we reached there we had our lunch at a restaurant and we also had ice creams.

After looking around we went to a hotel called Best Semiramis which is located in a town called Peurto De La Cruz. We stayed at Hotel Best Semiramis for 2 days. Our hotel room was sea facing with amazing views and it was so wonderful watching people parascending over the sea. On the second day went to a place called Loro Parque where it was like a zoo but a bit better because it was a park where there were lots of amazing magnificent shows of many sea animals such as sea lions, dolphins and even killer whales (Orcas). After watching all the live shows we went on to have our lunch in one of the restaurants in the park. We also saw many special animals in the park like white tigers, huge and scary alligators, talking parrots and various types of other birds. After our visit to Loro Park we went to a nearby beach which had fine black sand and no pebbles. We enjoyed playing on the beach for about half an hour and then went back to the hotel to have dinner.

On the next day, we went to a volcano called Mount Teide which made the island of Tenerife with its solidified lava. The drive to mount Teide was very scenic and also steep. We saw the top of the mountain from a cable car. It was very boring when we had to wait to get in the cable car, so while we were waiting our parents told us stories which made it better.

After getting back from the top of the mountain in a cable car, we started to move to a villa which we were going to live in for another 6 days, so we drove there. A lady called Elena guided our parents around whilst we played hide and seek.

The day after that, we went under the Atlantic Ocean in a yellow submarine. And we saw many amazing sea creatures. After the submarine ride we went on a beach with golden sand and played for about a couple of hours before heading back to the villa.

After that day, this was the main day of our holiday when we were going to a place called Siam waterpark which is the second best waterpark in the world. We been on the Lazy river ride, The Dragon, The Volcano, The Giant, Singha, Jungle Snakes and Kinnaree. The easiest ride was the Lazy River Ride and the scariest was The Volcano. There was also a ride called Tower of Power which we didn’t do because it was too scary by the looks of it and there were also height/age restrictions. Overall it was a wonderful day spent in a fabulous water park!

The next day, we didn’t really go anywhere so we just stayed at the villa. And played in the swimming pool but we had to get out quick because everyone found it cold except me! We spent the rest of the day enjoying the villa before heading to a restaurant for the dinner.

Now, was the day of the end of my holiday, we had to board our flight and say goodbye to Tenerife. I was a bit sad when we had to leave our holiday. But hopefully I’ll come back next time.

  4. The day I am going to recount is the day I was in the guard of honour for Harlequins. When I was at the stadium I met some of my Harlequins teammates from the under 9s team. Before I went onto the pitch I could hear the roar of the crowd, it sounded like the roar of one thousand lions. Next we ran out and it was epic, I could feel the heat of the fire, and the smell of smoke as the fireworks went off. After this I looked around and I could see the lights of the camera twinkling around the stadium like stars. Finally I felt proud and excited to be in the guard of honour welcoming Harlequins to the pitch, I was so happy to have my dad mum and brother watching me, it was the best day ever!

  5. The best trip I can remember was the West Whiterring beach trip in year 1. We left the school very early that day. We were going on the coach with my mum, other parents and teachers. On the coach I sat next to Zayd who was new in the class. We arrived at the beach at 10 am and settled in. We changed into our swimming shorts and then we started to build sand castles. After that, we were allowed to go into the water to have a swim. We had lots of fun in there, splashing and swimming. Next we changed into dry clothes and had lunch. Later on I played football with my friends, my mum and Om's dad. Finally, we left the beach and we sat on the grass next to the coach and had ice-cream. Then we went on the coach and came back to school.

  6. It was July the 21st 2015 and on that day it was my birthday. I was so excited. I invited my cousins, my friends, Elina, Tanvi, Elina’s sister, Jaina’s sister and also my sister Diya. As it was a hot day I had my party in the garden. Outside I had a trampoline, a paddling pool, sports balls and nets, obstacle courses and a bbq. My dad made hot dogs and chips, also burgers, the smell from the bbq was delicious and everyone wanted more and more. The adults had a swingball tournament and they were really competitive as they all wanted to win. Then me and my friends went inside and watched Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on television, all the chocolate so yummy that we wanted to pick it out of the television and eat it. After the film we opened my presents and I loved everything that I received. Also when it was dark me and my friends made a scary movie outside and inside and I got freaked out when the lights got turned off. Finally everyone went home. My birthday party was the best birthday ever!

  7. Siam Water Park
During this year’s Easter Holidays we 3 families visited Tenerife, Spain. We already booked online tickets for Siam Park. On arrival at the park our dads went to find a park a parking space. While we were waiting it was a bit cold. Finally, our dads came back and the fun began!
We went inside with our twin ticket and put our clothes away in a locker, then rushed to the 1st ride. It was called the Mai Thai River. The ride was fun and relaxing. We didn’t go the boring way in fact we went where all the rapids and things were, there was a slide which took as all over the place and lead to the aquarium.
The next ride I went on was the volcano, me and my mum went with 2 other people and my dad reached with strangers. The inside of the volcano was blue and it seemed like we weren’t going to move, but we did.
Next up was The Giant, it was high difficulty but I would rate it easy. I felt like I was sliding down a water slide. It was nothing.
After that we went on jungle snakes. I went on a snake called python! I would rate that ride medium. It ends with a sudden landing. All the snakes are different.
A few minutes later it was a long queue for the singha. We all go dried out and then got soaked head to toe with water. Water was flowing from every direction you looked at.
Next on the list is the kinaree. I was a bit scared for this one but it ended up being my favourite.
2 minutes later and we were on Mekong rapids. I quite liked this one but sadly it was the last one.
I had a wonderful time of my whole trip to Tenerife but I liked when we came to Siam park best so I chose to write about It.

    Crane Park!
    -----------

Before my class and I left school to go to Crane Park, we tried to remember everything so that, we wont have to come back. Everyone was talking as we walked to the bus stop in Evergreen Lane.

When we arrived at the bus stop to wait for the 111 to go to the massive Crane Park, the whole class lined up against the wall. After 5 minutes the bus arrived and we all went on the upper deck of it. As we got off the bus and walked down the path to the park I saw some tall trees and some colourful birds.

After that, we met a man who was a staff from the park and he guided all of us around. Next Miss Joseph put us all in groups to either do water dipping first, or mini beast finding first. I did water dipping first, so I had to put my wellies on and change into my shorts so that I don't get soaking wet in the water. After I got changed we made our way down to the river. When we arrived at the river each one of us took a net to catch fish. We had to fill up a tray so that, when we catch a fish we can quickly put it in the water to look at it. When I first, got in the water it was freezing cold but later on, it got warmer. I caught 5 colourful fish.

  11. My Best Day out Ever

My best day ever was when I went to the Warner Brothers studios to see how the Harry Potter films were made. First me and my family members had a sleepover at my sister’s house. That night we watched some of the Harry Potter movies to prepare us for the next day. The next day we headed off to the studios, we were all really excited to see how they made all of the movies. When we arrived we all walked through the big doors to the start of the tour. We saw lots of interesting things like Dumbledore’s outfit and Harry Potter’s wand. We also got to see the Hogwarts Express and go in to. In the films the children travel to Hogwarts on this special train.
After that, we all tasted some butter beer, I really liked it and thought it tasted exactly like cream soda. Next we went outside to look at the bus and where Harry’s auntie and uncle lived. Then we went back inside to go to Dygon ally it was really cool seeing it in real life.
Later that day we saw a humongous structure that was Hogwarts. This was one of my most favourite things about the day. Hogwarts was huge and very detailed.
Finally we left. We were all very exhausted from our wonderful day out!

  13. Two years ago, whilst in year two I went to the Giants causeway in Ireland with my Mum and Dad to have a holiday as it was the summer and the weather was warmer, not much saying that we're talking about Northern Ireland which is normally freezing all year round. I was excited as it was the first time I had been to another country in the United Kingdom!

As soon as everyone woke up, I saw the scene of the normal morning chaos, my Mum reading a textbook about the natural phenomena of Northern Ireland ; my Dad shouting about the schedule over my sleepy moans while I rubbed the crusty corners of my eyes to get my numb eyelids open. Eventually, we got into a manageable situation : I queuing to get into the shower of our hotel room while puffy eyed in a dressing gown and my Mum almost ready to as I watched her multitasking as fast as lightning in awe. Finally, we were ready to leave.

After what seemed like an hours journey, we departed from our taxi onto a hexagon engraved, bumpy and gravelly pedestrian area in front of a shabby old coffee shop and a formal and modern looking reception building, we went inside the reception and questioned the receptionist on where the cause way was, she told us to go between the two mountains and go with the road and turn right. Soon after locating the cliffs, we did exactly as she said and saw an amazing sight, about 300 majestic hexagon shaped columns of different heights which had been formed six hundred years ago due to volcanic activity in contact with water. The lower columns were wet and slippery ; the higher ones damp and towering. When we ventured closer, we saw a group of Korean tourists with cameras.

I was slightly scared as we climbed the towering mountain of hexagonal pillars, luckily we got there safely and took some cool photographs of my Mum and Dad on some of the highest, most dangerous formations and waves crashing into the pillars. I tiredly climbed down and back into a taxi, we reached our hotel room and I exhaustedly fell asleep!

  15. Homework

(A Wednesday in the Easter holidays)

On a bright sunny Wednesday morning I woke up and had a scrumptious breakfast. We were going to AHAA DOSA to have lunch with Sid so I finished my homework quickly. Although we had a car, me, my sister and my mum had to go by bus because all of us will be come back with in Sid in his car. When we arrived at AHAA DOSA I ate onion uttapam. The taste was good and I finished it all quickly.

After lunch, Sid came to our house to play. We were playing cricket. I got 287 runs till I was caught out. Mostly I was hitting sixes and fours lightly. Then it was Sid's turn to bat. He too batted well. I spun the ball when I bowled to him. We both got tired after playing for a long time. Then it was time for Sid to go home. With my bat I practiced some of my cricket skills. The skills that I practiced were bowling and batting. In a few minutes my Mum called me for dinner. While I was having dinner with my family, I watched this TV program called Siya Ke Ram. This was a half an hour program about Hindu god Rama. After it finished I went to my room to go to bed.
It was my best day:I scored 287 runs and it was my highest score.

    Regards,

  16. In the easter holiday break me and my family went on a holiday to the beautiful Scotland. It was a long and tiring journey. The train that we went on took ten hours to reach Scotland.

We stayed in an amazing appartment suite. Behind our appartment was a large beautiful lake. There was a stunning bridge on the lake. Next to it was a side walk for pedestrians. It looked lovely.

On our first day in Scotland we went on a long drive. We came across lots of majestic mountains with spectacular views. We could see the clouds and when we reached on the top of the mountain, we felt as if we were touching the clouds.Eventhough it was a very long drive, I was not bored at all because of the picturesque views. On our way back home, we saw a spectacular waterfall.

The next day I was quite excited as we had planned to go to the Lochness lake. I felt astounded as I could hear the sound of the Waves crashing onto the shore. I was bewildered, asking myself "is it the lockness monster?"

The very next day, we went to the best bit of our holiday which was going to the prominent "Ben Nevis Range" which is going to the very top of the Nevis mountain. We reached the icy top of the Ben Nevis on a cable car also known as a Gondola. The views up there were just outstanding. I could feel the splendid breeze of the icy mountain. There was another cable car that would take people even further up but unfortunately, only skiers were allowed to go up there.

On the fourth day, we went to the splendid isle of sky. We drove all around the island and it was breathtaking experience as we reached the top of the mountain driving in our car. The views from up there were simply unique.

Finally, on the very last day of my wonderul trip I went to visit the eccentric Edinburgh castle. Later on, we went to the camera obscura. There I looked at different fascinating things, like the mirrors of illusion, many scientific activities and much more fun stuff.

My trip to Scotland is an unforgettable holiday.

  17. In one’s life, there are some days that one remembers for life. I am going to tell you about such a day from 5 years ago, that I cherish. I went to India during my holidays and whilst we were there my dad told me that I was going to a cricket match but when he mentioned Sachin Tendulkar I was a little more interested and excited. My favourite team Mumbai Indians were playing against Kings XI Punjab in the Indian cricket league. The match was in Wankhede stadium home of MI cricket located in India.

First of all, I went with my dad, his two brothers and 2 other cousins. When we got there, I entered the stadium which was extremely loud for my liking because I was only 4 or 5 years old. I was amazed to hear the deafening roar of the crowd and as I looked around the stadium looked like a sea of blue people waving their flags around like mad. Most of the crowd were Mumbai supporters which was fantastic so the team had support and encouragement when they needed it the most. Next, we settled down in our seat to prepare for the match.

The first half was very humid and tense: as the night went on the temperature dropped down to only 250C!! During the break, we had a snack and I also bought a Mumbai Indians top to wear for the next half. In the second half, I got to see the GREAT Sachin Tendulkar bat right through the Mumbai innings which was entertaining and exciting. The atmosphere was extremely loud when a boundary or six were hit and suddenly the noise level dropped when a Mumbai wicket fell. In this case, the crowd was very supportive and I enjoyed it a lot. In the end, we won the match quite comfortably. At the end of the tournament Sachin had the IPL trophy in his hands celebrating with the team.

This was also the first time I experienced going to a sports stadium to watch a live match which was excellent. This day is special because it actually interested me into learning and playing cricket. I also remember this day because it was a spectacular experience and I can still recollect the atmosphere now (in April 2011).

Disney land was Just 7or 8 minutes from there in the car.

On the second round we went on the rides section. First we went on the Goofy 's Stunt Plane Ride. It was really fast! Then one of the people who work there told us about the free pass, pass .We got the free pass set in our badge and chose which rides we want the free pass on. Then we went on the space mountain ride,it was super fast .Then we drove on a mini car with an engine, on the race track it had some lines like a scalextric. It was Fun! Then we went in the ride called Its a Little World , where we sat in a little boat then we went on many different rides. Then I met mickey mouse and we took a photo with him. After that we came at Just the right time and just the right day that we could see the Disney parade. We saw many characters! Finally we took the Disney Maglev to the resort shuttle stop.
