This week we have been looking at work by Kandinsky.  We talked about how different art work can create certain moods and feelings.  We have also learnt about various artistic techniques eg brush techniques and colour mixing.  Choose one of the Kandinsky pieces.   Describe the piece of art work in detail. What shapes can you see? What does it remind you of? How was it painted? How does it make you feel?

When writing try to use;

  1. I can see an acute triangle, circles, squares, semi circles, triangles, thin rectangle, liens, crescent moon, quarter of a circles. It reminds me of night time because of the crescent moon and it is dark at the edges with light shining on the shapes. It was painted using a variety of colours to highlight different parts it makes me feel excited because it reminds me of space travel with the crescent moon and the earth in the corner and someone travelling in space

  3. The Blue Painting
    -------------------------
The dark blue on the edges looks like a black hole and the light blue appears to be like a portal. In the centre, the bright blue, yellow, red and green burst out and give the painting life. The bright blue is a calm colour whereas green is a fresh and natural colour. The yellow and red give a warm feeling to the painting.

In this piece of outstanding art I can see quadrilaterals, triangles, circles, squares. I can also see many lines, some of which are long, short or curved and others are straight. Some are parallel while others are perpendicular.

If you tilt the picture to the left, the diamond shape looks like a man’s triangular face with a bright red hat and a yellow cloth around his waist. From my point of view, it seems like he is throwing a green and orange disc into the dark sky. If you turn it once anti-clockwise until it is a portrait, a girl with long, wavy and flowing green hair appears to be sitting on a massive kite with a spear, flying to the glowing green moon on a murky night. The other circles are planets randomly scattered into space.

This lovely painting includes a colour wash and block art, it also has contrasting colours in it. Kandinsky painted abstract using geometric and chaotic styles on canvas or cardboard. He used bold lines and bright colours. He also made his art to go with a certain type of music.

I like the positioning of the shapes and I like the way the green, yellow and red complement the blue. It makes me feel ecstatic and delighted! If I wanted to keep it I would try and copy it then I would use different colour combinations. I would always look at it before I go to sleep.

  4. Well done Om a great description with extended sentences. If you paint your own copy I would love to see it. What colours would you use to create a relaxing mood to send you to sleep?

  5. In the first picture I can see many colourful circles. The question I wanted to ask is,why is this picture made up of circles? The circles have different colours(like, green, dark green, dark blue and some more)in different rings. The colours of those rings have all the colours like a rainbow.

I can see that 'Kandinsky' has used his colours in a special way.He must have used a drop of white paint to the main colour to get the swirly pattern.

The miracle about this picture is that it is both fiery and calm at the same time. The primary colours,Red,Yellow and Blue ,give a distinct glow and the colour white fails to glow, because it is slightly the same colour as light. This picture reminds people of LIGHT!Every time you put this painting in darkness the circles start to glow one-by-one.

This painting makes me feel that I am driving an Airbus A380(Emirates)in the clear blue sky.I feel this extraordinary mood because the circles look like gears/wheels on a plane. It also makes me feel calm and relaxed.DID YOU KNOW THAT, IF SPIN THIS PICTURE AROUND 10 TIMES YOU GET HYPNOTISED(FAST)!!!Surprisingly, this painting/picture gives me lots of sudden emotions.

  6. I chose the second painting by Kandinsky, because it makes me feel like I am a bird.
I like the backround because it's orange and orange is one of my favourite colours. On the painting I can see lots of different shapes eg circle, square, parallelogram , triangle, rectangle and a shape that looks like half a rainbow. I think that Kandinsky painted the bird on the left and on the right I can see the boat on the purple parallelogram shape. The painting makes me feel like I am on holiday which makes me feel excited.

  7. Concentric Circles
I can see circle, a lot of circles and these circles look very big eyes to me. This makes me feel a bit uncomfortable because the eyes are looking at me like a black, clever cat looking at a rat before it eats it and I don’t like people looking at me. I choose this one because I like all the bright colors. The bright colors make me feel as I am a rainbow. The whole painting makes me feel like to run away and be scared because these eyes are looking at me. Some of the circles are like a ghost mouth to me.

This drawing called the concentric circles is a vivid , elite and colourful image. It looks as if it is going deep into the paper.
I have also noticed that most of the colours are contrasting (opposite to each other). Even though this composition is not blending
it is quite breath taking. It makes me think of a sunset on a hot and sweltering beach. The inner circle makes me think of a hurricane
or tornado maybe even the different layers of the earth.

  9. .My favourite art work is the second portrait.

.In this sad and heart breaking portrait there is a sturdy, Valliant Roman soldier bravely fighting a rough and treacherous battle, surrounded by brutal soldiers, as tough as a pack of lions, savagely attacking him with razor sharp bows and arrows. The shiny gleaming sun is rising high above the tough Roman soldier providing him immense strength for the mighty battle, thereby spreading golden yellow sunshine all around. There are different amazing colours in this eye-catching piece of art work. Some are as bright and glossy as the dazzling sun while others are as soothing and calm as the peaceful sky.

.In this spectacular portrait there are lots of different shapes like the squares, rectangles, triangles, circles, quadrilaterals, right angled triangles, isosceles triangles and semi circles and also a variety of lines such as straight and parallel lines.

.This impeccable portrait reminds me of the Great Roman Empire and the courageous and mighty Roman soldiers.

.This amazing portrait was painted using water colours and secondary colours. It shows colour mixing and flat brush strokes.

.This stupendous piece of art by Kandinsky gives me mixed feelings. On one hand it makes me feel sad for the valorous Roman soldier who had to fight a fearsome battle and on the other hand it makes me feel cheerful when I look at the radiant beautiful colours.

  11. I can see squares that are different colours and shapes. I can also see rectangles. It makes me feel calm, quirky, happy and relaxed. I think it was painted very carefully because it is not too over detailed and the colours are within the shapes especially the pink one. It reminds me of stairs and the leaning tower of Pisa.

  12. My picture is the 2nd last picture and the shapes I can see are triangles, squares, circles and semi-circles this picture is an abstract art. This picture reminds me of a scared fish which is dressed as a cat screaming and swimming away. Kandinsky might have used simple brush strokes and colour mixing. This picture makes me feel amused.

  13. Concentric Circles

This piece of creative and amazing art work has mainly got circles but if you see clearly then you would probably see that there is some squares that are around each circle. I also see primary colours such as yellow, red and blue but mostly secondary colours like orange and green. These circles look like a lot of things to me. They look like eyes staring at me and tasty donuts even colourful suns. The little circles at the centre of each eye looks like a pupil, each of these eyes represent different feelings, some are happy, sad, surprised and some are rather puzzled. It makes me feel as if I was dizzy and could see 12 unusual suns everywhere. The donuts look tasty and I cannot resist it. This outstanding picture make me pick it because it is not as confusing as the others, it is easier to see what shapes there are and I like the neat lay out and the bright colours as well as the formation of each circle.

  14. The blue painting
    ------------------------
    Ishan

I can see in this picture lots of shapes overlapping each other, there are also all sorts of shapes (rectangles, circles, sqaures, triangles, quadrilaterals and cylinders). All of the shapes have different sizes and angles and all the shapes are placed in random areas in the painting. The main colour in the background are light blue and dark blue and geometracal shapes contrast brightly with this by being in bold primary colours. When I look at the picture my eyes are drawn to the wonderful vivid shapes which remind me of a spaceship orbiting the planets in space. The lines surrounding the spaceship could be representing signals to discover life on other planets.
This is an interesting abstract painting, which makes me think about the mysteries in space and each time when I look back at the painting I notice even more detail than I saw before.

I can see in this picture circles, squares, ovals and these shapes are not all perfectly shaped but they are in different sizes like large, medium and small.
What does it remind you of?
It reminds me of spirols, eyes with different emotions and as you keep staring at it becomes hypnotysing.
    How was it painted?
It was painted by using these techniques like colour mixing and a little bit of brush techniques.
How does it make me feel?
It makes me feel happy because the painting has bright colours as bright as the sun but at the same time it makes me feel scared because it looks like the eyes are staring at me and makes me feel hypnotised.

  16. The third portrait

I like this amazing picture because it has got bright colours and makes me feel excited, happy and cheerful by the same bright colours. The outer layer coloured in dark blue looks like a black hole and the light blue is like a portal sucking up many shapes. I can see a big black weapon and the shapes below looks like a time travel. The black hole seems to suck up the portal and throw it out the other end. There are lots of different shapes (triangles, circles, squares, semi-circles,and many irregular shapes) and sizes ,with lots of different angles which appear highlighted. This picture looks adventurous and appears to give a sense of motion(appears to move fast).

On second thoughts when I look at the picture it looks like a colourful festival depiction. I see lots of bright colourful kites , with a setting sun and some fire works in the background. It feels that the people are having a fantastic time and I would like to join in too.

I think it was painted by imagining a portal with a big black hole and some random things getting sucked up.

  17. I like the one which is blue because the glowing bit looks really pretty. I can see a bit where it is wavy that reminds me of the sea. The whole painting reminds me of the glowing moon where it is glowing. In the bottom right corner the bit of red looks like the sun. In the bottom left corner next to the circle and triangle the bumps and the black line together look like teeth. It is painted with a variety of different bright and colourful colours. It makes me feel calm because at the bottom the three lines look like a gentle breeze.

  18. The painting I have chosen to look at is called the ‘Blue Painting’ and this is an oil painting.
I can see lots of shapes in this painting, there are triangles, circles, squares, semi-circles, rectangles and long straight lines.
This painting reminds me of space because the all of the different shapes come together and look like a space rocket.
This painting makes me feel excited because there are lots of shapes in different colours and different sizes. The different shades of blue makes me think of space as if I am looking through a telescope. I imagine all the shapes floating in space around the circled shaped planets.
