Should children have their TV or computer time limited?

H ow much time do you spend watching TV or playing on the computer?
Well a study reckons that too many kids are having too much screen time.
The report found that by the time a child is seven they could have spent around a year of their life looking at TV and computer screens.
Some experts think that if you're between 7 and 12-years-old you should limit yourself to an hour a day to help your brain develop better.
For your homework write a paragraph either for or against answering the question:

    I dont think that your amount of time watching TV or playing on the computer should be limited because on TV or on the computer you can learn lots of things and as you know we can do mathletics and have a blog wich helps teachers as they somtimes use it for the register and for newsround and to make flipcharts wich means you need to use it half the time for school and you use computers for over 60% of jobs so we technicly use them in most of the time and I am as you probably know this on my laptop.

  2. Watching to much tv makes you not that concentrate in school. If you don't read or don't use your brian and use imagination or do creative things like drawing or puzzles,lego,sport,conversations and something not on a screen,then your brian will forget to think or problem solve.This is because your brian is a muscle and if you don't train it to think or problem solve it won't get better at doing these things.Just like with sports you have to practice to get better and if you just watch tv all the time you will not use your brian.

    Nowadays, too many children watch TV and play computer games every day and night. Experts think that parents should start limiting the time children spend watching TV or playing computer games. Watching TV can make you a couch potato if you are glued to the TV for too long. Also, you can damage your eyes and can get glasses. This will happen if you are too close to the TV or staring at it for too long. Children will eventually be overweight if they sit there watching TV doing nothing. Furthermore, if the TV is ON while eating food, it distracts the brain on what to do and focuses on watching TV.
    As a matter of fact, a huge number of children play computer games every day for more than 1 hour. This happens due to how much a child is addicted to what they are playing. Although, killing fake villains is fun, it can make you violent in life. The sign for this is when you are in an argument and it’s not your fault, you will think about fighting physically. In addition these games are played for the whole day by most children. Those children are lonely at school or partly because they spend their precious time on the computer. They also cut time on studies and might fail their tests at school. An injury can also occur if you press the same buttons again and again. This injury can hurt your thumb which is known as the ‘Gamers Thumb’. The only way to stop this is to limit the time on how much we look at the screen or play computer games!!!.

  4. Due to the fact, children can’t use a screen unlimitedly because it can damage their eyes, no matter what they are doing either study or homework or playing games. Screens are addictive and in that way children get attracted to it so it can give them vision problems. Screens can also give children health problems because they are not physically moving while using the screen for a long time. That’s why I believe children should limit their screen time.

I think that children that are 7 – 12 should have their TV or computer screen time limited because if they don’t have it limited then they will just sit at home watching the TV and in the time they have wasted they could of went outside have a little run around and get some fresh air. Or they could have had some playtime or studied. Nothing is going to happen to them if they sit there and watch some TV because their brain will not develop and they will not learn anything plus watching too much TV is bad for your eyes you could get glasses. In the time you spent watching TV you could have spent time with family or friends. This doesn’t mean that you can’t watch any TV you can still but don’t watch too much. Don’t watch more than an hour a day.

I don't think children should have there TV time limited because some TV shows are educational and can give you information that you might need to use in later life including vital life saving skills for saving persons lives. I'm personally only limited to only watching after 6:00 but I think I should watch at 5:00.

  7. I believe that kids should have a time limit on gadgets. There are several reasons why I am for less screen I time. Firstly, sitting on the sofa watching things on your gadgets will make your eyes hurt and may require you getting glasses. Secondly ,it’s not good for your health , as you won’t be getting enough exercise. Finally , you can ignore your parents if your listening to something really loud.

  8. I think that children should have limited time watching tv and using other electronics (phone, games, ipad and computer). Children shouldn't spend to much time on electronics, because their eyes can be damaged and they will have to wear glasses. Children can use computer to do homework which they learn from it and about an hour for games to relax and have fun. If the children could spend unlimited time on the electronics they will become tired , lazy, addictive, nervous, silly and they will also behave badly. Finally television is good for you, because you can learn a lot of subjects and you can use that knowledge at school.

    I agree that children should have limited time on screen because of the followings:
    1. We usually are sitting down when watching TV and if it is for a long time, it could lead to a bad posture. This would be the same as playing games on computers, tablet or mobile phone because we use the same fingers by moving them for a long time and that makes it bad.
    2. With too much TV or playing too much games will make you eat more junk food and getting fat without any exercise. This will lead to obesity.
    3. Irregular sleeping - if they are playing then they will concentrate on the screens and they won’t go to sleep.
    4. Violence - there would be behaviour problems by watching some of the programs that includes violence because the children may imitate the bad character.
    5. Less time for play – there would be less time for activities like art, sport, water play and going outside with friends or going to the park even less time with your family because the children would be busy watching the TV or playing games.
    6. Impaired academic performance – some researchers found that children who have TV in their bed rooms tend to be a bit worse than some others.
    7. Eye vision – if children look at screens too often, it will be harmful to your eyes.
    Almost every parent thinks that having limited times on computer to children under 12 is reasonable. I think that sticking with 1 hour with computers and TV’s is sufficient.

  11. We must watch at least 1 hour a day to develop our knowledge and exercise our brain to make us smarter . However , spending long hours looking at lighted screens will harm our eyesight . But however in time , we must use the computer and TV for information and facts to help us with our homework . We should have a limited time to use the computer and TV no matter of purpose .

  12. Is TV Good or Bad?

    These days TV is entertainment for everyone. People are watching too much TV and they are watching it for an unlimited time that is bad.

    As we know that people say that TV is bad for your eyes and they can damage your eyes.
    Some people say sitting close to the TV damages your eyes but they do not ( to find out why ,go to fact section at bottom of the page fact No.1). If you watch violent programmes then it might lead to BULLYING(that is very,very,very BAD!)and affects grades in work. This will lead to less concentration. If you watch TV while you are eating then you brain will get distracted and stare at the TV. If you watch TV and just eat they will put on weight easier and you get lazy and will lead to getting obese. When you do work in class the you will get distracted easier and forget your work.
    They also get used to moving objects that they keep on fiddling. Some times they show things that are not meant for kids. In addition It is bad for your health. Further more the TV has stereotypes that might change your rights!When you start watching TV you can not switch it off because you get
    addicted. Some people say the TV is “the idiot box”.

    Facts:

    1.When you look at the TV too close you strain your eyes not damage them!
    2.The TV's often uses stereotypes that can warp the watcher's perception of the world.

    Watching too much TV or playing on the computer will hurt children’s eyes. At school children have to look at screen to do their tasks. Watching TV will make a child’s imagination grown and might even help at school. Children use computers to do homework, for example blogging. Doctors say to have a limited time because it could damage their eyes. 50% of kids say to have an unlimited time and 50% of kids say a limited time because there are many more things to do like drawing or playing. Most people feel that children should have a limited time to spend on TV or the computer.

  14. I dont think we need to limit our time to watch TV, or play games on computers.
    Because there are programmes and websites which help learning for example Mathletics where i play maths games, there is also TV programmes like the News that teaches me about what is happening around the world.
    I think there should be an equal amount of time spent on watching TV or computer games and doing non-electronic activities, so that there is a balance in our day.
    We have a lot of technology today and all of our homework is set on school websites and not on paper for example blogging , mathletics and we use scratch at school.

    I think we should spend time away from screens during the day to keep a healthy balance and to rest our eyes.

    Watching too much TV reduces the time that you have to do other things such as going out and interacting with other people in activities such as sports, music or just being outdoors.
    If you use too many devices with bright screens, it can strain your eyes if you constantly look at the screens for a long time such as when you are watching TV or playing games.
    Playing too many games can reduce your intelligence. However, if you play educational games, it can actually help you get smarter. Furthermore, too much gaming can affect your concentration and makes it difficult to focus on your work. Playing violent games can change your behaviour, and can also give you nightmares.
    In conclusion, I think that children should have their TV and computer time limited to one hour a day to protect their eyes and brain. Additionally, parents should keep their children safe by preventing them from playing violent video games and computer games.

    Air, food, drink, rest, health and hygiene are vital for survival of a human being. Sufficient time should be spent on these activities and they should be done properly. Due to so much screen time, 80% of these activities are affected. There are several reasons why children should have a limited amount of time in front of any screen.

    Food and drink
    --------------------
    Food and drink are one of the necessary things that are being affected by too much screen time. Firstly, children don’t eat or drink because they want to finish watching their favourite television programme. Secondly, children might see adverts about unhealthy food they might want to buy and eat. Children are drinking more and more fizzy drinks instead of milk and water and instead of fruit and veg children are eating chocolate and sweets. If there is something funny on television then they might laugh while they are eating, causing themselves to choke.

    Rest, Health and Hygiene

    Sadly, children are spending more time in front of screens and this is seriously damaging their eyes, even doctors agree. Many children are seen wearing glasses, even as young as 4 years old and by the time they are teenagers they will have developed back or neck problems. Furthermore, the children do not get any exercise whilst watching television. Moreover, screen pixels make children hyperactive and restless. As a result of restlessness children do not sleep very well. If the children are watching television or playing on phones, they are neglecting other important jobs and responsibilities such as homework, shower, and brush and tidying their room. They are also missing the opportunity on learning other life skills performed outdoors such as, playing outdoors, observing nature and surroundings to learn and develop their brains. For example, when I go grocery shopping I know what we need to buy, which shop to go to for which items, which aisle the item is in and our preference of brand. I know to check for the ‘use by’ and ‘best before’ dates. I gain knowledge and independence in grocery shopping as well as learning to choose tasty and healthy food by looking at the calorie table.

    This is why I believe that children under 12 years should have a limited amount of screen time so their brain can develop better and they can build focus and concentration. They should watch something that can help them learn and expand their knowledge like; how it’s made, how do they do it, Deadly 60, Wild Africa, River creatures, Fort Boyard and Master Chef.

I think kids need little time to watch tv because they can learn new things and stuff but in the same time it is not good for there eyes so they dont damage them.They need time to study,do there homework or play outside.Everybody know that television is an addiction for the kids. Know about the computer kid can play videogames or watching funny video for many reason maybe because they are bored and they cant do nothing.But still it is not good for the eyes so i prefer for the kids dont be inside the house alot ,they can do there homework and study but after that they can go outside and play.
